Extension of Public Health Measures to 5th March 2021

Due to the escalating Covid-19 situation which has created a third wave of infections, the Taoiseach Michael Martin announced on 6th January the re-introduction of movement restrictions and government has stopped the majority of construction activity, limiting electrical and gas services / repairs work to emergency call-outs only (see Dept of Taoiseach press release here). As a minimum these restrictions will apply until the end of January. There are some exceptions for social housing and critical Government projects.

This will significantly impact the operation of some Registered Gas Installers and most will not be able to carry out work for at least the rest of the month of January. Please note that emergency gas works can still be undertaken. Please ensure that in order to protect yourself, your staff and customers, you need to follow all government and HSA guidelines while carrying out this emergency work. Click here for COVID specific guidance from RGII which was developed during return to work in 2020.

During the current restrictions RGII have scaled back their Inspection operation and will only be carrying out inspections in emergency situations.

Domestic Gas Assessments

A communication was sent to those whose DGA expired in 2020 on 3rd December 2020. RGII continue to monitor the situation with training facilities and will update those affected if required.

Insurance updates

We understand this is a difficult time for many and we are receiving some queries in relation to insurance cover. It is a requirement under the CRU Criteria Document that each Registered Gas Installer (RGI) maintains insurance cover. In order to ensure there are no delays to purchasing certificates, RGIs whose insurance expires during the restriction period need to confirm that the policy has been renewed. The insurance certificate should be emailed to info@rgii.ie detailing the period of cover and the liability requirements (€6.5m Public Liability and €13m Employers (if an RGI company).
