RGII Webinars

RGII, in association with Gas Networks Ireland are pleased to announce the launch of a series of Webinars for RGIs. These webinars address some technical issues which RGII inspectors come across during our inspections, as well as bringing RGIs the latest updates from Gas Networks Ireland on biomethane, their customer connection journey as well as a look at the future of the Gas Network in Ireland at GNIs Hydrogen testing facility.

Our first webinar will be published next week, with prizes available following completion of a short quiz on the content of the Webinar. The prizes available will be 2 * €100 One4All gift vouchers. RGII appreciate any constructive and useful feedback from the webinars.

RGII Director Election

RSM Ireland (independent auditors) and our independent election officer have informed RGII of 4 valid nominations for the RGII Director position on the RGII Board. For a nomination to be valid it had to be proposed and seconded by at least two current RGI Members: the candidate not being permitted to propose or second themselves.

There will be a contested election for the RGII Director position.

As previously communicated, the schedule is for ballot papers to issue Friday 13th August 2021 with a closing date for return of ballot papers of Friday 27th August 2021.

The voting will be by proportional representation with a single transferable vote (PR-STV). Proportional representation means that voters can indicate their first and subsequent choices for the candidates on the ballot paper. The names of the candidates will appear in alphabetical order on the ballot paper, together with their photographs.  Each candidate’s industry profile will be provided on the website very shortly.

Certification of others work is NOT PERMITTED

RGII wish to remind all RGIs that an RGI providing certification for work which has not been completed by themselves (signing off others work) is a serious offence and is strictly prohibited under the RGII Rules of Registration and the Criteria Document. Section D3.1(ii)(c) of the Criteria Document states;

Any RGI shall be liable to disciplinary action(s) in accordance with this Section D in any of the following circumstances:

c. Providing a Completion Certificate in respect of Gas Work that has not been completed by the RGI (except in circumstances so permitted by the Body)

RGII will bring RGIs found certifying others work through the Disciplinary process where sanctions can include suspension or revocation of the RGIs registration. Section D9.1.2 of the Criteria Document states;

D 9.1.2 The standard of proof applicable shall be proof “on the balance of probability”. If the Disciplinary Committee makes a finding that the Complaint has been proved or upheld in whole or in part, it may make any one or more of the following Orders as it considers appropriate:
(i) That the RGI be reprimanded by way of an oral warning;
(ii) That the RGI be reprimanded by way of a written warning;
(iii) That the RGI be required to give a written undertaking to the Body on the terms set out by the Disciplinary Committee;
(iv) Requirement that the RGI undergo a formal competency assessment or attend specified courses;
(v) Requirement that the RGI be subject to a higher frequency of inspection and/or fees and charges;
(vi) Suspension of the RGI’s registration for a defined period and the terms upon which the suspension shall be lifted; and/or,
(vii) Revocation of the RGI’s Registration with the Body.

RGIs should read over the requirements for certification by reading through Operational Procedure No. 1 of the Criteria Document if they have any doubts regarding certification.
