The CRU has published a modification to the Criteria Document for the Regulation of Gas Installers in Ireland (version 1.7).
The modification helps ensure the implementation of the EU Recognition of Professional Qualifications Directive. The Directive obliges the CRU to put in place a system to recognise the qualifications of people from non-Irish qualifications who wish to access the RGI scheme.
Under the Gas Recognition Process for International Qualifications, an Expert Panel assesses each application against a set of learning outcomes, determine if identified gaps can be bridged and gives successful applicants a choice of either an assessment or an adaptation period under supervision of an RGI.
Version 1.7 of the Criteria document enables this by allowing entry to the RGI scheme by people who have been through the recognition process and creating a Trainee membership category for people who have opted to undergo an adaptation period. In addition, minor changes have been made to the Criteria updating terminology and references.
