Joining RGI Scheme

Installer Registration

There are two membership categories of Registration :

  • Full Membership
  • Trainee Membership

Each membership category has the following General Membership conditions:

  • Hold appropriate commercial insurance (€6.5m Public & Product Liability for Sole Trader RGI and €13m Employers Liability for Companies)
  • Pay the appropriate membership fee
  • Sign and accept the Rules of Registration

The easiest and fastest way to apply for membership to the RGI scheme is through our RGI Online Application Form available here. This form will allow you to attach all necessary documents as well as pay for your application all in one go. You will receive a confirmation of your application as well as a receipt for your payment once you have completed the form. If you have any issues or suggestions related to the form, please email gasinfo@rgi.ie. Your feedback is valuable to us.

To ensure a smooth and seamless application process, please ensure you have the following documents available for uploading onto the form:

  • Passport Sized Photo
  • Copy of Valid Insurance Certificate
  • Copy of Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate
  • Copy of Gas Qualification Certificate(s)
  • If you are applying as a Trainee – Copy of confirmation letter from Training body that you are registered apprentice (SOLAS)

Please note that uploading the wrong documents can will delay the processing of your RGI application.

The other method to start your application for membership to Safe Energy Ireland as an Individual click on the RGI Scheme’s Individual Application Form and send it back in email or via post to Safe Energy Ireland fully filled in. Alternatively you can call Safe Energy Ireland at 091 – 480974 and ask for an Application Form to be sent to you.

Notice: A level 6 advanced craft certificate in Gas Fitting, Electrical, Plumbing or Refrigeration is now required in addition to the requirements listed on the Application Form. See details in the Amendments to the Gas Criteria Document of 18 September 2013.

Company Registration

The RGI scheme provides for individually registered gas installers to operate under company registration. To start your application for membership to the RGI scheme as a Company click on the RGI scheme’s Company Application Form and proceed as above.

Transfer of Current Registration

To transfer your current registration from one registered company with the RGI scheme to another, or from a sole trader to an employee of a registered company please complete and return this form to the Safe Energy office via email or post.
