  • Registration
As of 10 Sep 2009 there are 2,424 Registered Gas Installers (RGIs) of which 1,178 are Sole Traders and 1,246 working for 492 companies. Some of the RGIs have been registered in the category “Provisionals” and will need to get a GID qualification by 18 Dec 2009, by which date the category will cease to exist and any “Provisional” RGI without the GID will be removed from the register and therfore prevented to do any gas work.
GID training courses are available from various companies such as:
    – Training & Employment Authority F.A.S.
    – Midland Energy Training & Assessment Centre (METAC)
    – European Energy Skills Centre (ERS) – Tel: 01-8110607, Email: energyskills@aol.com

“Provisional” RGIs are advised to book courses if not already done so to ensure they get the GID qualification by 18 Dec 09.

  •  Insurances
RGIs are required to have a valid insurance when carrying out gas works. The current insurance expiring date has been entered into the RGII data base and is monitored on a weekly basis. A notification letter is sent to all those RGIs and Companies who need to renew their insurance within a week. When an insurance has expired, the RGI or Company is sent a reminder letter and, if no feedback is received after one week, the RGI or Company is automatically suspended and prevented to carrying out any gas work and issue Declaration Certificate until RGII has received confirmation and details of the new insurance, in accordance with Clauses 4.2.5 and 4.2.6 of the Criteria Document CER/08/130 (Version 1) of 25 Jul 08. The RGI or Company’s name is also removed from the RGII web site.

  • List of RGIs and Companies on the RGII web site
The list is updated on a daily basis during the night. RGIs or Companies who have registered today will see their name of the web site tomorrow. Suspended RGIs e.g. invalid insurance are not appearing on the web site until suspension has been lifted.
