Safety Alert – Lean-to Bulletin Notice

RGII would like to remind RGIs about our technical bulletin published in April this year. This bulletin addresses major safety concerns regarding extended constructions concerns which RGIs have raised with RGII recently. Click here to view the technical bulletin .

Domestic Gas Assessment (DGAs)

Please ignore this notice if you have completed your DGA and have sent in your certification to RGII.

Further to communication in May relating to the Domestic Gas Assessment (DGA) and concerns raised by the IRP during recent meetings, RGII have been liaising with training centers about their capacities for training and assessment.

As you will be aware, due to covid restrictions RGIs whose DGA either expired in 2020 have had their deadline for completing their assessment extended to 31st of May 2022 , Those whose DGA expired in 2021 or 2022 will have up to 31st December 2022 .RGIs will be required to complete their DGA and provide proof to RGII (certificate or test results).

Across all training centres combined, there is currently capacity to accommodate all RGIs required to complete their DGA between now and the end of May 2022.

However, to get the training and/or assessment date at your preferred training centre, RGII recommend you book as soon as possible. This may suit your business during the summer months when it is not peak heating season.

It is important that all RGIs whose certificate of competency is expiring or has expired provide proof of completion of the DGA (not just having booked it) to RGII before the deadline . Failure to do so will result in suspension from the register.

We thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Please click here for contact details to book your assessment and/or training.

Registered Gas Installers (RGI) may restore gas to a gas installation following a “Safety Isolation” (i.e. after rectification of the hazard) by following the procedure below:

  1. Refer to the Notification of Hazard issued to the customer and complete repair works on the installation
  2. Carry out a full inspection on the installation and the associated appliances (Refer to Annex E of I.S. 813/I.S. EN 1949). This will include a Soundness test at operating pressure. If the pipework has been altered refer to section 13.2 of I.S. 813/I.S. EN 1949
  3. Note: When carrying out the soundness test, note that a sealing disc may be fitted on the meter outlet
  4. The gas supply may be restored by one of the following means depending on the safety isolation in place;
    A. Unlock the clamp on the meter isolation valve
    B. Remove cap on inlet pipework (or plug if tank/cylinder) and reconnect the pipework to the meter/tank/cylinder
    C. Remove Meter Sealing Disc on the outlet of the meter. Note only one meter washer must be used to seal the connection
  5. Commission all appliances and complete the Annex E check
  6. Ensure that no ‘Recalled Appliances’ are connected (Refer Product Recall for appliances recalled)
  7. Complete this Declaration of Conformance certificate. Issue the white copy to the customer
  8. Contact Gas Networks Ireland / Gas Supplier to report the completion of gas restoration works. You will be asked to provide the Declaration of Conformance Certificate number and the meter reading. Call staff are available from 8am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday and from 9am to 5.30pm on Saturdays on 1800 211 540. If works take place outside these hours contact Gas Networks Ireland/Gas Supplier with the details at the earliest opportunity.
  9. NOTE – There is now an option for RGIs to email GNI a photo of the Declaration of Conformance Certificate to notify them of the restoration of supply to a gas installation. Please email a copy of the certificate, following restoration of gas supply after a safety isolation, with the address or GPRN as subject line to the following email address GasOn@gasnetworks.ie.
  10. Remove the Safety Isolation Warning Label and attach to the green copy of the Declaration of Conformance. The label and the Declaration must be returned together as soon as possible (but no later than 20 working days) to the RGII Address.
